What happened

Three readings of the numbers.

The jump in 2025 is the Dubai-style pistachio-kadayif chocolate wave: US retailers and distributors sourced filled bars at scale, and Türkiye, the home of the pistachio-kadayif filling, supplied a large part of it. Chocolate exports to the US had moved between 29 and 73 million dollars from 2019 to 2024 before multiplying in 2025.

Seen from the US side, Türkiye moved from the 11th-largest chocolate supplier in 2024 to number 5 in 2025 (199 million dollars of 5,861 million imported; US Census figures differ from Turkish export figures because of valuation, timing and re-exports).

Sugar confectionery (Turkish delight, dragées, candies, HS 1704) is the steadier line: the US has been Türkiye's first market every year since 2019, at 192 million dollars in 2025 and roughly a fifth of all Turkish confectionery exports.

For buyers

What this means for a US importer.

For a US importer the numbers say three things. First, Turkish chocolate is no longer an exotic shelf item: a measurable share of the Dubai-style bars sold in the US came from Türkiye in 2025. Second, the confectionery side (lokum, dragées, hard and soft candy) has a long, stable record, which means established logistics, labelling practice and FDA routines on both sides. Third, unit values around three to twelve dollars per kilogram at the border leave room for private label and mid-market retail. Antep Foods ships both lines from Gaziantep in one mixed container; the terms are on the United States market page, the lines on Dubai-style chocolate, Turkish delight and chocolate dragées.

Method

Sources, filters and update schedule.

Sources
UN Comtrade (reporter Türkiye, HS 1806 and 1704, flow exports, annual) · UN Comtrade (reporter United States, HS 1806, imports, by partner) · US Census Bureau International Trade API (monthly imports from Türkiye, HS 1806, general value).
Filters
Comtrade rows with customs code C00, mode of transport 0 and no second partner only, so no double counting; the world row is excluded when ranking partners.
Why two sources disagree
Turkish exports are valued FOB at departure; US imports are recorded at arrival, with timing, transshipment via third countries and valuation differences. Both are shown, neither is adjusted.
Update
Annual series refreshed when Comtrade publishes the new year; monthly Census series refreshed quarterly. Last update 16 October 2026. Reuse with a link to this page is welcome.
