Pistachio spread in the UK: what the searches mean, what is in the jar and how the deli buys it

Cream, butter, spread: which word goes on the label

The search word is pistachio cream. The product in the jar contains sugar, vegetable fat and milk components with a stated pistachio content; under UK food information rules the name on the label has to describe that, so it is a pistachio spread, not a pistachio butter and not a cream in the dairy sense. The producer supplies the ingredient and nutrition data; the UK importer approves the label and puts its address on it.

What the Gaziantep jar contains

The line has two pistachio contents, 30 and 15 per cent, in 200 g and 300 g glass jars, 12 per case. The 30 per cent jar is the one delis put on the counter; the 15 per cent jar is the one a grocer prices for the everyday shelf. Beside them come the 30 per cent spread with toasted kadayif in the Dubai style, a hazelnut-cocoa spread at 13 per cent hazelnut, a plain hazelnut spread and a two-tone cocoa-and-milk spread, all in the same jars. The pistachio is the small, green Gaziantep nut, which is why the spread is greener than one made elsewhere.

Who buys it in Britain

Dessert parlours use the kadayif version as a topping and the plain version in fillings; delis and farm shops sell the 200 g jar as a gift; Middle Eastern and Turkish grocers stock the 300 g jar for the kitchen. Cash and carries take pallets and break them into cases for all three. The jar rides in the same container as chocolate, Turkish delight and dragées from other Gaziantep producers, each line with its own minimum in the offer.

Paperwork and transport

Preferential duty in the UK rests on an origin declaration under the UK–Türkiye trade agreement, not on an A.TR; the offer states the tariff heading and what applies on the day. Jars need no reefer and travel in a standard container, or share a temperature-controlled box with chocolate in summer. Shelf life and allergens, milk and tree nuts, come from the producer’s data sheet issued with the quotation.

Own label on the jar

Delis and online grocers in Britain increasingly want the 200 g jar under their own name. The producer prints after the artwork is approved, with the UK address of the responsible business, the ingredient list, the allergens and the nutrition declaration in the UK format; the minimum per line is in the offer and is lower for a label change than for a recipe change. We supply the packaging data the label needs; the importer approves the wording with UK food information rules, because the name on the jar is the importer’s responsibility, not ours.
