Chocolate-covered Turkish delight: the bar Americans know and the roll Gaziantep makes

In the US the phrase chocolate-covered Turkish delight mostly means one thing: a rose-flavoured jelly bar in milk chocolate from a British confectionery brand, found in the import aisle. Gaziantep makes something else under the same name, and the difference matters to a buyer ordering by the case.

Two products, one name

The import-aisle bar is a soft rose jelly enrobed in milk chocolate, sold by the piece and known from British supermarkets. The Gaziantep product is a lokum finger roll built around whole pistachio kernels, cut into pieces and coated in milk or dark chocolate; the pistachio, not the rose, is the point. One is candy-bar confectionery; the other is a deli and gift item. Both are called chocolate-covered Turkish delight in an American search, and a buyer should decide which one the customer is asking for before requesting a price.

What Gaziantep supplies

From the lokum producer we work with: pistachio finger rolls in 2 kg inner units, ten per 20 kg case, in plain, chocolate-coated, white-coated and kadayif-coated versions, plus hazelnut and pistachio-pomegranate rolls. The chocolate-coated roll is sold by the inner unit and sliced by the deli or the retailer; boxed retail formats are listed on the Turkish delight page. Special lokum lines with a pistachio or kadayif coating come in 5 kg or 2 kg inner units.

Who buys it in the US

Middle Eastern and Turkish grocers sell the roll from the deli counter by weight; gourmet stores and gift shops take boxed pieces; dessert shops and caterers buy the inner unit as an ingredient and a platter item. The British bar competes in a different place, the checkout and the candy aisle, and we do not supply it. A distributor who serves grocers and gift shops takes the roll in two or three coatings and adds pistachio chocolate, dragées and spread from other Gaziantep producers to the same container.

Label, shelf life and transport

The US label needs the ingredient list, tree-nut and milk allergens, Nutrition Facts, net weight in ounces and grams and the responsible firm; the producer supplies the data and the importer approves the artwork. Shelf life comes from the producer’s data sheet, issued with the quotation, not from this page. The chocolate coating is a cocoa-butter or a compound family, stated per line; cocoa-butter lines ship at a controlled temperature in the warm months, plain lokum does not need it.

How the roll is sold at the counter

The deli slices the roll into rounds and sells it by weight or by the piece, dusted or undusted depending on the coating. Retailers who prefer a pre-cut product take boxed pieces instead. A pistachio roll is a high-value item per kilo because it is mostly nut by value; the cheaper starch-dusted cubes are a separate line in a different price band, quoted on the same offer so that a buyer can pair the two for one shelf.

Asking for a price

We are an export company, not the factory. Send the coatings, inner units and quantities; the written offer arrives within two working days in US dollars, FCA Gaziantep, FOB Mersin, CIF or DAP, with the producer named per line and the tariff heading. Payment by bank transfer in two halves, the second against the loading photographs. Samples first, free from running production, courier at your cost.

Do you supply the British chocolate-covered Turkish delight bar?

No. That is a branded candy bar from a UK maker. We supply the Gaziantep pistachio roll and boxed lokum from producers we name in the offer.

How is the chocolate-coated roll packed?

In 2 kg inner units, ten per 20 kg case, sliced by the retailer or deli; boxed retail pieces are a separate line on the offer.

Is the coating real chocolate?

Both families exist. The offer states cocoa-butter chocolate or compound coating per line, because it decides the US label wording and the summer transport.
