Dubai chocolate wholesale in the US: the bar, the jar and what the label may call it

The formats that exist

From the Gaziantep producers we work with: a 100 g milk chocolate bar filled with pistachio cream and toasted kadayif, 72 per case, with hazelnut and caramelised-biscuit sister fillings; a 35 g flowpack bar with pistachio cream and kadayif, 144 per case, for the checkout; pistachio cream cups single at 15 g, in a 45 g three-pack and in a 75-cup display dome; and the pistachio spread with kadayif in a 200 g jar, 12 per case. Chocolate or compound: the US name follows the recipe

The FDA standard of identity reserves the word chocolate for products made with cocoa butter as the fat. The same bar exists from the same producer in a compound version with vegetable fat: cheaper and more heat-tolerant, but on a US label it is a chocolate-flavored or chocolaty coating, not chocolate. We say which family is being quoted on every line, because it decides the label and the summer transport. A distributor for the Sun Belt may prefer compound; a specialty grocer will want the cocoa-butter bar.

The label a US distributor inherits

Nutrition Facts, ingredients in descending order, the nine major allergens, here milk, tree nuts and possibly sesame, net weight in ounces and grams, and the responsible firm. The producer supplies the data; the importer or brand owner approves the artwork. Private label is possible on the bar, the cups and the jar, subject to the producer’s confirmation and the minimum in the offer.

Summer, reefer and the port

Cocoa-butter bars travel at a controlled temperature; from late spring a reefer is quoted for the container. Jars, dragées and Turkish delight ride in the same box without it, so a mixed container is planned around the most sensitive line. From Mersin the container reaches the East Coast or, on a longer route, the West Coast; the port follows your warehouse. Shelf life, ingredients and allergens come from the producer’s data sheet issued with the quotation.

Who buys it by the case in the US

Three channels have taken the bar so far: Middle Eastern and Turkish grocers, who sell the 100 g bar by the piece; specialty and gourmet stores, which take the cocoa-butter bar and the cups as a premium item and often want their own label; and dessert shops and bakeries, which buy the pistachio-kadayif spread in the 200 g jar as a filling and topping. A distributor serving all three orders the formats in one mixed container and adds pistachio tablets, dragées and Turkish delight from other Gaziantep producers to the same load, each line on its own pallet with its own minimum.
